(More customer reviews)I was committed to purchasing an electric lawnmower.Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of options and even fewer reviews so was hard to decide!Ultimately went with the neuton and have been very happy.It is extremely light and easy to maneuver and turn which is great b/c we have a couple of hills and narrow spaces on our lawn.I was worried b/c it is more narrow than some mowers (maybe 14"?) but that hasn't been a problem at all; in fact, it makes many parts of the yard easier to mow.Charges quickly and we haven't had any battery problems.Never ran out of charge on our small lawn (takes about 45").It is quiet (not noiseless, but I can cut early in the morning without waking the neighbors) and cuts well.I'm thrilled not to have a cord, and it is easy to start and stop.Haven't used the mulcher or any other fancy accessories (the local sales guy said not to bother with buying those).

I would buy this again without hesitation and would recommend to others.I didn't give it 5 stars only b/c there are so few cordless electric mowers to choose from in 2005 that I can't imagine this is yet the model of perfection, but for the average small lawn owner (like me), it's a great machine.

Addendum 7/2006: now in our second season and no complaints.We love this machine; it was a great purchase for us.
Addendum 9/2007: third season, great machine. Now that I've seen its durability, I would give this product 5 starts (Amazon won't let me change my original rating).
Addendum 6/2009: fifth season, still totally satisfied with this machine.Blade became "unbalanced" and needed repair in year 4.Battery still going strong (we keep it plugged in all year).

(More customer reviews)I was very happy with this mower. My only complaint was the rear flexiable guard is too long and when you are pulling the mower backwards it get into the blade. I just cut off about 3 inches of the guard which is just a soft plastic and it works great. The mower has plenty of power and it is quiet. It mulches high grass OK and does normal length grass fine. All in all a fine mower.

What I like:

- Light weight.Light enough to manuever with one hand while the other hand tends the cord on turns.ALSO, this holds easily going across an incline, rather than up, which is hard on the lower back, or down, which is hazardous.

- Height adjustment is spring-loaded, and counter-balanced just right.Raising and lowering cutting height is quick and easy.It lowers in a snap from preferred lawn cutting height to its lowest setting for grass or leaves on the drive or street, whichquickly turn to near dust for ease of blow-off.

- It mulches great across the lawn; much, much better than the last 2 gas mowers I've owned.That's probably more due to design than power source -- but the mulching is the point.The clippings from one week's growth just disappear.And the St. Augustine grass common here in Florida doesn't mulch as easily as the bluegrass of Kentucky, as memory serves.

- A metal cutting deck, rather than the plastic offerings from a couple of competitors.

I can't speak to how well the bag works; haven't tried it.Bagging is a waste of time, effort, and fertilizer, imho ...

Drawbacks:

- uhhh ... It doesn't make enough noise to wake the neighbors.(Long story ...)

The padding on the handle is not durable.Not at all.But I see some padded bicycle handlebar tape in its future.

Neuton Trimmer/Edger Attachment For CE 6 Lawn Mowers Review

(More customer reviews)Bummer that the previous reviewer had reliability issues with his Trimmer/Edger attachment. I bought mine with my Neuton 6.0 and it's worked fine, so seeing the other review, I felt I should mention how well it actually works.

And the answer is, very well. It's a powerful little trimmer, and the convenience of being able to just throw the switch on the handle of the mower to swap between mowing and trimming can't be beat. I use this to edge, and to hit tall grass/weeds near the dropoffs or fences where the mower "can't cut it."

The only downside is that it's not as easily maneuverable as a hand-held trimmer. Because it's mounted on one side of the mower, you may have to swing the mower around and reverse directions to be able to put the trimmer into the right spot. Not a big deal.

I have a nice gas trimmer as well, but it never gets used as this is so much more convenient, and no messing with gas/oil.

(More customer reviews)This mower held up well for the trials I put it through. New sod, very thick and most mornings wet. The unit is easy to maneuver with exception of the cord that gets in the way more often than not. This mower is best suited for relatively thin and dry grass. In my experience the cut was uneven at the best of times. During use with damp thick (not tall) grass the motor would bog down and necessitate mowing the same area several times in different directions to get good results. The bag capacity is minimal creating the need to constantly stop mowing to empty it. For a very small yard this unit will work well.

When my gas mower died a few weeks ago I started looking into electric mowers as a compliment to my battery operated BD, weedeater,blower,hedge clippers. I was hesitant as an electric mower for a 12,000 lot is a big step, giving up on ease of movement and power and selfpropelled feature or so i thought.

Well i ordered off of Amazon and it came within 72 hours, free shipping WOW and the price was terrific compared to local stores and no tax...

Anyway, i put it together and it was ready to use within 10 minutes, really!!!

You do need an electrical cord to operate and i had 100' cord which is perfect for my yard. My yard has not been mowed in several weeks as my gas mower died and i did not want to spend the money for reserection of a 4 year old mower plus gas prices are crazy right now. I did plan my route since i would have a cord i was pulling. Turned it on and it was amazing on how much less noise it was compared to my gas mower. My wife came out and asked when i was going to start but had been mowing for 15 minutes, lol.

I started in the mulching mode at first and not paying attention had it on the lowest setting....it was going fine but when i hit thicker deeper grass it did bogg down. I inserted the discharge shute and even on the lowest setting in taller grass it mowed fine. Once i realized i had it on the lowest setting and moved it up in height comparable to my gas mower the electric mower never bogged down one time even when mulching!!!The cord is not bad at all although i did have to get used to it as i wrapped it around the tree once and just laughed at myself. I thought i would miss the self propelled feature, however, this mower is sooo light its like pushing a vacum cleaner so i was managing the cord with my left, pushing with my right and no problems, mowed like a champ, no uneven cuts. My neighbors came out and were admiring the mower all commented on how nice and sleeked it looked for a mower and how quiet it was.

I would recommend this mower to anyone wanting to go electric as the cord is not that big a deal like i thought i would be when reading the reviews. So far so good B&D has a home run with this mower.

(More customer reviews)I initially considered the "SP" version of this mower @ Home Depot...the only model they sell.If you have serious elevation changes in your yard, perhaps the self-propelled version is worthwhile [whether the front-wheel drive Solaris or its rear-wheel drive Epic & Utopia cousins].Otherwise, buy this model.You can't get this info from the Linamar website, but the self-propelled versions are 18# heavier; when you're trying to make a battery charge last, draining them via an extra drive belt to pull/push a [heavier] mower makes little sense.

This mower is solidly built, & the big wheels make it easy to push & quite maneuverable.I gave it a test run, then handed it off to the 16-year old who cuts my grass.No issues.I was particularly pleased to see how well it mulched, as I'm a big believer in leaving clippings to nourish the lawn.There was no clumping, & as long as we don't cut wet grass, I expect it to stay that way.

Other cordless mowers probably perform as well, though most have decks smaller than this one's 21" which means longer mowing time.I think the Solaris' brushless motor is a huge advantage, & expect great longevity.Ultimately, though, I rejected most other mowers because replacing their batteries was cumbersome or impossible; I think that's nuts.The Solaris batteries swap out in seconds.Mine lasted about as long as expected, covering 80% of my .4 acres.With the money I saved by skipping the self-propelled feature [& headaches], I bought a 2nd set of batteries & have power to spare.It's a great solution, & my neighbors--including one who just bought an $800 Honda to get a pushbutton start like mine--are jealous.

The cons are minor.Changing deck height requires moving 4 levers instead of 1...but I only do this a couple of times a season.The tone it emits on stopping is irritating [hold the bail down or pull the key to silence].Charger mechanical connections could be tighter.Overall, though, well-designed & well-built.
